Stars Run Into Red Hot Jakub Dobes, Fall To Canadiens

Much like every other team he has faced in his four-game NHL career, the Dallas Stars could not solve Jakub Dobes.

Dobes made 32 saves as the Montreal Canadiens scored three straight goals to take down the Stars 3-1.

We had a bunch of chances all night, we just needed one more to go our way,” Stars goalie Jake Oettinger said.

“You’ve got to try to look at [close games] as an opportunity to make a big save to keep it 1-1 or make a big save and then we go down and score. It’s fun and hopefully, we’re playing in a lot of those down the stretch. Those have been going my way lately and tonight it didn’t.”

The Stars got on the board first when Jason Robertson followed a rebound and put it into the back of the net early in the game.

However, much like many times this season, Dallas gave up a goal shortly after getting on the board.

Just 47 seconds later, Juraj Slafkovsky tied it finishing a sweet feed from Cole Caufield for the first of three straight.

In the second period, the Stars seemingly dominated play but just couldn’t get on the board as the game remained level.

At 9:15 in the 3rd Alex Newhook deflected a Lane Hutson shot past Jake Oettinger to score what would end up as the game-winner.

Dallas had a few chances to score late with the extra attacker but Joel Armia put one home with 17 seconds left to seal the win.

“I thought we had more than enough chances to score a couple goals tonight, didn’t stick them in,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer.

“Coming off a road trip with a quick turnaround, I liked our effort. I thought the first ten minutes we came out a little slow considering the situation, but I liked our game. At the end of two, we should have been up. We did a lot of things right tonight.”

Dallas will be back in action on Saturday as they hit the road once again for the front end of a back-to-back in Colorado against the Avs.
