Stars Get Bounce Back Win Over Sharks
After Monday night’s 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars coach Pete DeBoer said it would be about how the team responded.
Dallas responded in a big way, collecting a much-needed 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks at the AAC.
It wasn’t as much about how much they scored but who scored for the Stars as some slumping players provided some much-needed offensive production.
Jason Robertson, Wyatt Johnston, and Roope Hintz each found the scoresheet in their first game and reunited as linemates.
“We needed those guys to get going. So, the right guys scored,” DeBoer said. “You could tell by their body language that it was a weight off their shoulders and hopefully that’s the start of some big things here. We need them.”
Robertson gave Dallas the lead just five minutes into the first period scoring his first goal in the last ten games.
San Jose would get the next goal at 18:44 to knot the game at one after the opening frame of play.
It didn’t take long for the Stars to get that goal back as Wyatt Johnston buried a filthy goal just 56 seconds into the second period.
Ten minutes later, Dallas captain Jamie Benn found the back of the net just inside the left post to make it 3-1.
With the game at 3-2, the Stars scored two empty net goals to put the game away and leave a 5-2 final.
Roope Hintz scored the initial empty-net goal before Evgenii Dadonov buried a floater in the final minute.
Not all was butterflies and rainbows for the Stars as they lost defenseman Nils Lundkvist to a lower-body injury.
Pete DeBoer said after the game that the injury didn’t seem to be serious but that Dallas would know more at practice on Friday.
