Stars Down Hawks 4-2 To Win Final Game Before Finland

Dallas TX – Saturday night at the American Airlines Center was somewhat of a going-away party for the Dallas Stars.

The next time the Stars will be in action is five days from now on November 1st when they take on the Florida Panthers in the NHL’s Global Series at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland.

However, before Dallas made the nearly ten-hour flight, they had the Chicago Blackhawks to worry about.

Dallas once again put forth a strong home-ice performance taking down Chicago by a score of 4-2.

For the first time since the 1998-1999 season, the Stars are 5-0-0 on home ice through the team’s first five home games.

“There’s a lot of good details [in our game],” Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen said. “I think we’re defending well most of the time and [Oettinger] has been great, so that’s been really good. Of course, offense is working, too. There’s been many good things, but I like our defensive game so far.”

Evgenii Dadonov put Dallas in front at 9:17 of the first period when he buried home a breakaway started by a flip off the stick of Esa Lindell.

In the second period, Stars captain Jamie Been put home an unlikely goal when he swatted a puck out of mid-air after it bounced off his shoulder.

“Kind of just a lucky play. Just hit it to myself,” Benn said. “When you’re in a bit of a slump, the best place to go is right in front of the net. Miro [Heiskanen] had a lot of room and feathered one over, it hit me and got lucky. It’s nice to get one.”

Once the third period began, Matt Duchene would net one of his two goals on the night as he put home a loss puck to make it 3-0.

Chicago wouldn’t go away quietly, however, as the Blackhawks used goals from Ryan Donato and sophomore sensation Connor Bedard to cut the Dallas lead to just one.

After having been on the heels for much of the six-on-five, Matt Duchene put home an empty-net goal with 18 seconds left to make it 4-2 and secure the win for the Stars.

“We did a lot of good things. I think the game didn’t feel as good as it probably could have because of the last 10 minutes. They had a couple of goals there and made it close,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said. “On the other end, I thought [their goalie] made some big saves. I thought we could have had five or six [goals], but we were pretty good tonight and deserved to win. That’s what we did.”
