Stars Down Blues To Win Both Ends Of Back To Back

A very successful back-to-back is in the books for the Dallas Stars.

Following a thrilling 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights at the American Airlines Center on Friday, the Stars traveled to St. Louis on Saturday.

The Stars’ trip to the home of the Blues was a success as Dallas played a dominant game throughout.

Led by a 33-save shutout from Casey DeSmith, the Stars took down the Blue 2-0 at Enterprise Center.

“I had some fortunate bounces, a couple posts,” DeSmith said. “They missed a couple big chances when the net was pretty empty. But the guys just battled. It’s a hard thing to do, those back-to-backs. Obviously not on me, but it’s hard on these guys. Obviously I got the rest, but they don’t.

Both of the Stars’ goals came in the first period as Evgenii Dadonov slipped one through the legs of Jordan Binnington on a breakaway to open the scoring.

Later in the frame in the winding seconds of a power play, Esa Lindell buried one off a cross-ice pass from Roope Hintz to score the Stars’ second and final goal of the game from either side.

“I just got the tail end of the power play there before it comes to 5-on-5,” Lindell said. “We ended up getting in the zone. I’ve got to give credit to [Hintz], who made a nice pass.”

During much of the final two frames, it was the Blues who were on the offense creating multiple high-level scoring chances.

However, less than 24 hours after some Jake Oettinger heroics sealed the deal against the Knights, it was DeSmith who became a hero of his own.

“It was a night where our hearts were in the right place; it was 11 games in 19 nights,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said. “A real emotional, hard-fought win last night. We were running on fumes. There wasn’t much in the tank. We did enough to win. Casey DeSmith came in and was our best player, which is what we needed. A big two points and found a way. Looking forward to a day off.”

Following a pair of off days, the Stars will be back in action when they travel to Las Vegas to take on the same Knights who they just defeated on Friday.
