Stars Complete Comeback At MSG To Beat Rangers 4-3

Before the first period was even over, the Dallas Stars fell behind 3-0 to the New York Rangers at the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Dallas never led until 2:17 into the overtime period when Jamie Benn tipped one past Jonathan Quick and into the net to give the Stars a huge 5-4 win.

The Stars have now won their last five games after sweeping their four-game home stand and opening their road trip with a win.

It didn’t take the Rangers long to get on the board after Alexis Lafreniere fired a snap shot past Jake Oettinger to give New York a 1-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later it was Vincent Trocheck who tipped one home and doubled the Rangers lead.

A little over a minute and a half later, Lafreniere struck again on a backhander, and suddenly, it was 3-0.

“Not the start I dreamt about last night, but I just felt like once they got that third one, I felt like we were getting a lot of chances and if I could keep it there then we would be able to tie it up,” Oettinger said.

“We had a lot of chances early on. ‘Quickie’ made some good saves and we hit a couple posts. They were bearing down on all their chances. We felt like if we just kept playing that way we were going to get more and more chances. We had to step up and we did.”

The Stars didn’t take long to start digging into the New York lead as just over a minute after New York got their third, Matt Duchene fired one off a Rangers defender and into the net to give Dallas their first.

Later in the period on the power play Evgenii Dadnov buried one home to cut the lead down to just 3-2.

The lone goal in the second period came off the stick of Jason Robertson who ripped a backhand shot past Jonathan Quick to make it 3-3.

In the wild third period, Thomas Harley flipped a puck into the stands for a delay of game penalty leading to a Rangers power-play goal.

After coming out of the box, Harley snapped a wrister into the net to tie the game with just over 2 and a half minutes left.

In overtime while on the powerplay, Jamie Benn came through with the game-winning tip and the Stars skated out of the most iconic arena in the world with a win.
“Any time in this League you’re down 3-0 in a game and come back and win, especially on the road, it’s an identity, character, gut-check kind of win,” Stars coach Pete DeBoer said.

“We’ve kind of climbed back in the standings here with a real good homestand the last two weeks so we wanted to start this road trip off right. To be in that hole and find a way to get out of it early in this trip was really important for our group.”

The Stars will be back in action on Thursday night when their road trip takes them to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers
