This Week In Kannapolis Cannon Ballers Baseball (August 22-28)

The Ballers’ offense, combined with top-notch pitching, showcased this week why they were the South Division First Half Champs.

Pirates score a combined 23 runs but still get swept by the Cubs

It seems only yesterday I was writing about the time the Pirates pitching staff allowed a combined five runs in a three-game series in Texas but lost two of those three games. OK, it wasn’t yesterday, but it was last week.  The constant thing about a struggling franchise (organization–this stuff is systemic, at this point)… read more

This Week in Charlotte Knights Baseball: August 23-28, 2024

Time is starting to run short enough on the season to make an overall .500 season impossible, but Charlotte still has a great shot at getting even for the second half, hopefully pointing toward sunnier days (and playoff contention?) in 2025. And if scroll all the way down, when you see how the bats are heating up here in late summer, you can see that postseason goals may not be too nutty looking ahead, because Charlotte’s been mashing hell outta the ball.

This Week in Winston-Salem Dash Baseball (August 21-27)

Record 1-5 (August 21-27) 55-66 (overall) 24-31 (second half) The Dash continued their skid this week, dropping five of their six games and only averaging 3.5 runs per game (sadly, the White Sox would happily accept 3.5 runs per game). On the bright side, the Dash had several strong pitching performances throughout the week, and… read more

Kansas City Royals Grab a Share of First Place from Cleveland Guardians

Ruling over the AL Central was fun, but now the Cleveland Guardians are in a 29-game fight to the finish. The red-hot Kansas City Royals beat the Guardians again last night at Progressive Field by a 6-1 score. The Royals have wiped out a 9-game deficit since late June and are now tied for first… read more

Rooftop Mingle: Kyle Karros is paving his own way in Spokane

There are plenty of pressures that come from being the son of a major league baseball player. For 14 years, including 12 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Eric Karros was a menace in the league. He clubbed 284 home runs and drove in over 1,000 runs while posting a career .779 OPS. His numbers may… read more

Kansas City Royals Tighten Divisional Race With Doubleheader Sweep of Cleveland Guardians

Baseball gets me every time. Oh, boy! A doubleheader! I get to enjoy two games in the same day! Then the Cleveland Guardians lose both games. Again. In the last two years, the Guardians have played eight doubleheaders. They have been swept seven times and split once. GAME 1: ROYALS WIN 4-3 Cleveland manager Stephen… read more

White Sox Minor League Player of the Week (August 19-25): Sam Antonacci

The Cannon Ballers finished with the best record of the week, going 4-2 against Fayetteville. Much of that performance was led by Sam Antonacci, the White Sox’s fifth-round pick in this year’s draft. The Knights and Barons finished .500 this week, and overall, there was plenty of competition for this week’s honors.

This Week in Birmingham Barons Baseball: August 20-25

The Birmingham Barons split a six-game set with the Biloxi Shuckers. Solid pitching performances from Noah Schultz, Jairo Iriarte, Jacob Gonzalez, and more!

The Pirates won the series vs. the Reds, and that’s all that matters

I had one of two quotes ready to unleash on Twitter (presently known as X) at the conclusion of the Pirates’ four-game weekend series against the Reds at PNC  Park on Sunday afternoon. One quote was the title of this article. The other quote was this: “The Pirates didn’t lose the series against the Reds,… read more
