White Sox win 2 in a row… is it 2021?

The Chicago White Sox have… *checks notes*

Won a game? Not only did they win one game, but two in a row for their first time winning back-to-back games since late June. Something that is usually a sense of normalcy in baseball has not been done by the White Sox since the start of summer. With their win last Sunday, I also picked up my second win in a row on coverage. Man, it’s nice to remember what it felt like to be good. Either way, I guess let’s celebrate a weekend of winning baseball and see how this one played out.

Sean Burke got the start for the South Siders for his first appearance of the season, and it seemed to go well. However, the Sox struck first off of JP Sears in the bottom of the first inning as Luis Robert Jr. had a one-out walk and a stolen base moved him over. Andrew Vaughn singled him in to grab a 1-0 lead, and Gavin Sheets followed with a two-run home run to give the team an early 3-0 cushion.

There wasn’t much more action from either side until the top of the fifth inning, when a dreaded two-out walk to Lawrence Butler lead to a Brent Rooker home run, his 37th of the season. Bryan Ramos extended the lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning, for his second of the year. Since we AREN’T going out and spending money in the offseason according to GM Chris Getz after the world season in baseball history by any team, I guess it is important to monitor our young players.

Burke had a successful start, showing out for the future.

Fraser Ellard came in to close in the top of the ninth inning. Is that really our closer now? After a quick home run from Shea Langeliers with two outs to make it a 4-3 game, the South Siders were able to grab the win. All they have to do is go 8-4 the rest of the way to avoid the 120 loss mark, the worst in the history of the sport. Could they get hot?

If you can’t sense the sarcasm, they will probably not get hot. However, they do go on one last West Coast trip for two series against the Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres starting tomorrow night. It will be an 8:38 p.m. CT start time and Jonathan Cannon will be on the mound. Plus, Yoán Moncada will finally be activated! This would have been more exciting a few seasons ago.

Let’s hope the Bears can grab the win tonight and complete the Sunday Sweep.
