White Sox select Aaron Combs in the eighth round of the 2024 draft (No. 229 overall)

With the 229th pick in the 2024 MLB draft, the White Sox used their eighth round selection on right-handed reliever Aaron Combs of the University of Tennessee.

The 6´3´´, 190 reliever was a key contributor to the 2024 title run for the Volunteers. He got the final two outs to clinch the SEC title, then earned a win and a save in games during the College World Series. He’s been nothing short of stellar out of the pen throughout his college career, which extends back to the College of Central Florida as a freshman. As you’ll see below, he packs some extraordinarily good Baseball Cube ratings relative to his peers.

Combs carries a 3.21 career ERA and 1.151 WHIP into his pro career to go along with a stellar 14.16 K/9. Like seventh-rounder Phil Fox, it’s imaginable that Combs sees professional action in Kannapolis later this summer.
