White Sox Minor League Update: July 28, 2024

Outside of a tough loss for the Cannon Ballers, all three teams (that were able to play!) had a great day on Sunday, including another solid start for Birmingham starter Mason Adams. The Knights will make up their rainout on August 30, but the rest of the farm went 2-for-3!

Charlotte Knights vs. Nashville Sounds Postponed – Makeup August 30

Birmingham Barons 5, Tennessee Smokies 2
The Barons offense came out of the gates hot to provide four runs of run support in two innings for Mason Adams, who would end up with his seventh win of the season after six strong innings. Adams is still holding strong with a 2.40 ERA, third-best in the Southern League. The bullpen followed in his footsteps, only giving up two hits in the final three innings and combining for three strikeouts.

Michael Turner was the difference-maker for the Barons bats today, as his three-run bomb in the first inning is what set the stage for the Barons win. Jacob Gonzalez also had a nice day at the plate, accounting for the remaining two RBIs for Birmingham.

Game MVP
Michael Turner (DH) 1-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI

Runners-Up
Jacob Gonzalez (SS)
2-for-5, 2 RBI, SB
Tim Elko (1B) 2-for-4, R, 2 K
Mario Camilletti (2B) 2-for-4
Gil Luna (LHRP) 1 IP, 0 H, 2 K
Mason Adams (RHSP) 6 IP, 8 H, HR, 2 R, BB, 2 K

Bowling Green Hot Rods 8, Winston-Salem Dash 2
The Dash fell behind quickly in the first after Lucas Gordon (3 2/3 IP, 8 H, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 BB, K) gave up a two-run shot in the first. However, Winston-Salem was able to tie the game in the top of the second as Calvin Harris matched that with a home run of his own. Gordon would give up another solo homer in the bottom of the second, and the Hot Rods took the lead once again.

One bad inning was the big issue, as Jared Kelley struggled in the bottom of the sixth, giving up five runs (three earned), including a home run – the third of the game for Bowling Green. Peyton Pallette recovered with 2 1/3 solid innings, but offensively the Dash fell flat the rest of the game.

Game MVP
Calvin Harris (C)
3-for-4, 2B, HR, R, 2 RBI, 2 PB

Runners-Up
Jordan Sprinkle (SS)
2-for-3, BB
Peyton Pallette (RHRP) 2 1/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 K
Colby Smelley (DH) 1-for-4, R, K

Charleston RiverDogs 11, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 10
Both the Cannon Ballers and RiverDogs were smashing the ball offensively, but the pitchers were riding the struggle bus. Frankeli Arias (4 IP, 7 H, HR, 6 R/5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) gave up four in the first to tie the game at four, as the RiverDogs removed the insurance runs the Ballers scored in the first in the blink of an eye.

In just a third of an inning, Carlton Perkins ended up with the L for the Ballers, as he gave up another three runs in the bottom of the fifth, which allowed the Dogs to erase yet another Kannapolis lead and emerge in front.

Fantastic offensive days from Arxy Hernández, George Wolkow, and Ryan Burrowes (plus many others!) weren’t enough for the Ballers to pull back in front. They went on a rally late in the game, but fell JUST short, falling to Charleston, 11-10.

Game MVP
Arxy Hernández (SS)
3-for-5, 2B, 2 R, K, E

Runners-Up
George Wolkow (RF) 2-for-5, R, 2 RBI, 3 K

Rikuu Nishida (LF) 2-for-3, R, 2 BB, CS
Albertson Asigen (CF) 1-for-5, HR, R, RBI
Luke Bell (RHRP) 1 2/3 IP, H, 0 R, 2 K
