White Sox Minor League Player of the Week (July 8-14): Mario Camilletti

It was not the farm system’s finest week, as the 3-2 ACL White Sox were the only team that finished better than .500. However, there were quite a few positive developments, and outfielder Mario Camilletti shined in his first week with the Barons. Camilletti made his Double-A debut on Wednesday, and he could hardly be kept off base at the new level.

Touki Toussaint 3 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 4 BB, 3 K

Despite losing their first three games of the week, the Knights recovered to split their six-game series against the Bulls.

Bryan Ramos, 22, has not exactly been crushing the ball this season, but he led the way for the Knights offense. Ramos went 5-for-15 with a homer, two doubles, and a walk to provide the Knights with a much-needed spark. After surging up the White Sox prospect rankings last year and making an impressive debut with the White Sox earlier this season before injury, Ramos has hit a bit of a road block thus far in Triple-A. However, he tapped into his potential this week, and he now has a hot streak to build on once again.

Birmingham’s slide continued this week, as they lost four of six matchups against Mississippi. They are gradually sinking closer to the .500 mark on the season.

Left fielder-second baseman Mario Camilletti got promoted to Double-A this week, and he wasted no time before he started making an impact. Camilletti’s Barons debut was fantastic, as he went 3-for-4 with a home run. The 5´9´´mini-mite also collected a pair of hits in the series finale, and he drew three walks on Saturday, too. Camilletti earned his promotion that was led by his .362 OBP in Winston-Salem, and he has not shown any signs of slowing down in Birmingham in the early stages of his time there.

The Dash won their first two games of the week, but they ended on a low note, ending on a four-game losing streak.

However, third baseman Wes Kath continued to crush the ball, and he secured his second straight Player of the Week award. Kath added two more home runs to his total, and he drew five walks to finish with a sky-high OBP and SLG. Kath finished the week with a .997 OPS, and despite a relatively quiet first half, his season OPS is up to a respectable .752. Kath, 21, was a second round pick in 2021; while High-A has been a struggle for him overall, lately he may have turned a corner.

Aldrin Batista 5 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 7 K
Connery Peters 3 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K

The Cannon Ballers struggled against the Pelicans, dropping four of six games during the week. The offense only scored 20 runs, for an average of 3.33 per game. However, there were a few bright spots, and reliever Luke Bell led the way for the pitching staff.

Bell, 23, has quietly been having a great season for the Cannon Ballers, which includes a middle relief role in Kannapolis’ no-hitter on June 29. Bell hardly could have performed any better this week, as he pitched 4 1/3 dominant, scoreless innings. Bell, a 34th round pick in 2019, struck out six and did not issue any walks. Overall, Bell has a 2.16 ERA and a 2.80 FIP in 33 1/3 innings this season, so he has been a very valuable part of the Kannapolis bullpen.
