White Sox Minor League Player of the Week (July 29-August 4): Drake Logan

The Knights and Dash had strong weeks, both finishing better than .500, but it was not so easy for the other affiliates. Drake Logan earned the weekly award for the system as a whole, but Edgar Quero, Noah Schultz, and DJ Gladney earned the awards for their respective teams, as each of those players excelled.

Charlotte Knights
Record 4-3 (last week), 49-56 (overall), 16-15 (second half)

Knights Player of the Week
Edgar Quero .389/.450/.833, 18 at-bats

Zach DeLoach .273/.360/.364, 22 at-bats
Mark Payton .435/.480/.609, 23 at-bats
Tim Elko .208/.269/.458, 24 at-bats

Nick Nastrini 1 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 K
Sean Burke 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K
Johan Domínguez 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K
Ky Bush 5 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 4 BB, 6 K (promoted to White Sox on August 4)
Jake Eder 5 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 7 K
Adisyn Coffey 3 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 4 K

The Knights won four of seven against the Tides to inch a bit closer to .500. Charlotte had a slow start to the season, but they are now within seven games of .500, and they are slightly above .500 during the second half.

Catcher Edgar Quero has really been surging of late, and he posted a 1.283 OPS this week. Quero launched two homers to increase his season total to 15, and in 17 games since being promoted to Charlotte, he is slashing .305/.423/.525. The 21-year-old catcher is having a fantastic season overall, and there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel at the catcher position.

Birmingham Barons

Jacob Gonzalez .130/.200/.174, 23 at-bats
Wilfred Veras .174/.240/.174, 23 at-bats

Tyler Schweitzer 11 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 14 H, 2 BB, 13 K
Mason Adams 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 8 K (promoted to Charlotte on August 4)

The Barons have fallen on hard times, going winless during the week to continue their slide in the second half of the season. Incredibly, after winning the Northern Division of the Southern League in the first half, the Barons are only two games better than .500 for the season. In six games this week, the Barons posted a grand total of four runs. Not great.

However, standout prospect Noah Schultz did everything he could, pitching very well during his start. Schultz only allowed one hit in 3 2/3 innings, and he collected five strikeouts. Schultz has posted a 1.67 ERA and a 2.86 FIP across 38 1/3 innings in Double-A. Schultz started the season with Winston-Salem, so it is great to see that he is still posting great numbers after his promotion.

Shane Murphy 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K
Tommy Vail 5 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 8 K

The Dash had quite a week, taking four of six games against the Grasshoppers (59-42). Winston-Salem was not expected to be a strong team heading into the season, but they are holding up relatively well, as .500 is still within striking distance.

DJ Gladney was very tough for opposing pitchers to retire. Gladney, 23, went 8-for-18 with a pair of doubles and walks. Gladney got off to a slow start this season, but he has heated up lately, and hopefully, he can keep this hot streak going. This is his second weekly award of the season, with his first coming in the second week of May.

Pitcher Tommy Vail has also been on fire, and he posted yet another fantastic start. If not for Gladney’s brilliance, Vail’s five-inning outing would have been enough for him to earn another weekly honor.

Ricardo Brizuela 8 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 11 K

The Cannon Ballers had a great start to the week, winning two of their first three games against Salem, and one of those victories was a 15-run outburst. However, the Cannon Ballers dropped the final three games to lose the series.

Drake Logan, who also was our Player of the Week last week, remained red-hot at the plate. In 20 at-bats Logan tapped 10 hits, two of which were homers. Logan also added a triple and a double, and his slugging percentage for the week was just shy of 1.000. Although power has not been a major part of Logan’s game, he now has a respectable .275/.348/.419 slash line.
