White Sox Minor League Update: July 14, 2024
The Charlotte Knights were the only White Sox farm team to get the win Sunday, so I’m just thankful we have the draft to distract us! Winston-Salem got cut short by the rain, Kannapolis let up some late-inning runs to lose the lead, and the Barons, sadly, got walked off.
Charlotte Knights 9, Durham Bulls 5 (Gameday box) (Statcast Box)
Top Hitters
Oscar Colás (DH) 2-for-4, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI
Brooks Baldwin (SS) 2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI
Edgar Quero (C) 2-for-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI, K
Mississippi Braves 5, Birmingham Barons 4 (Gameday Box)
Five strong innings from Tyler Schweitzer (5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, BB, 5 K) unfortunately wasn’t enough for the Barons to get the win on Sunday. Birmingham was able to tie the game at two in the fifth, and then take the lead in the sixth thanks to a hot day at the plate from Jacob Gonzalez. But Birmingham ultimately left 10 runners on base as a team and dropped a one-run loss to the Braves.
Chase Plymell put together a solid three innings out of the bullpen, but Andrew Dalquist (2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, K) lost control in the ninth. He struggled with a couple of walks and Mississippi was able to walk-off the Barons to end the game.
GAME MVP
Jacob Gonzalez (SS) 2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI
RUNNERS UP
Tyler Schweitzer (SB) 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, BB, 5 K
Cristopher de Guzman (2B) 1-for-4, SB, RBI
Terrell Tatum (LF) 2-for-3, R, BB, K
Greensboro Grasshoppers 4, Winston-Salem Dash 1 (six innings) (Gameday Box)
The Dash fell behind immediately on a leadoff home run, but Ryan Galanie was able to tie it at one with his own solo shot in the top of the second. Outside of Galanie, the only other Winston-Salem batter to even get a hit was Loidel Chapelli.
Although there wasn’t really any run support for him, Tanner McDougal (4 IP, 5 H, HR, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) didn’t help the cause, struggling to keep Grasshoppers off the basepaths. Peyton Pallette had an efficient fifth, but due to unplayable field conditions, the game ended in the sixth and Greensboro would get the win.
Tarp is off the field, the sun is shining, but unfortunately field conditions are unplayable. Grasshoppers take the win, 4-1!

GAME MVP
Ryan Galanie (1B) 1-for-1, HR, R, RBI
RUNNER-UP
Peyton Pallette (RHRP) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Myrtle Beach Pelicans 6, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 4 (Gameday Box)
The Cannon Ballers scored all four of their runs early in the second inning at the hands of two long bombs from Drake Logan and Mason Dinesen, but the rest of the team went 0-for-8 with RISP, and the defense also didn’t hold up their end of the bargain.
Jake Bockendstedt (4 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K) didn’t have the best game, having a hard time with control as he walked four batters, but three runs would score in his four innings. Errors cost the Ballers the game in the final innings, with one each from Dinesen and Alvaro Agüero, and the final two runs that would win the game ended up being unearned.
GAME MVP
Drake Logan (DH) 1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI
RUNNER’S UP
Alvaro Agüero (CF) 3-for-4, R, 2 SB, E
Mason Dinesen (1B) 1-for-3, HR, R, 2 RBI, E
Luke Bell (RHRP) 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K
