Sox Populi Podcast 179 — History!

With another loss, and another sweep, the White Sox entered territory they hadn’t occupied in 68 seasons. After Friday’s loss dropped the South Siders to .500 all-time over 124 MLB seasons, Saturday’s setback set them as a losing team for the first time in almost exactly 68 years — for the first time since Aug. 14, 1956.

Brett Ballantini did a postgame podcast he mistakenly branded as a mothership joint. Join him, and tread where others dared not:

  • A rundown of the numbers, including it being almost 25,000 days since the White Sox were last a losing team, and a White Sox fan would need to be at least 75 years old to have experienced any of the last losing era
  • Breaking down what records are necessary in the final 43 games to avoid the looming milestones including worst-ever 162-game team, worst AL team ever, worst White Sox club and most White Sox season losses
  • Tracking the remaining schedule to see how difficult it will be for the White Sox to avoid these milestones
  • Is there enough talent in the pipeline (or on the roster, snapping four-month slumps) to appreciably change the performance on the field?
