When we placed Drew Thorpe as the top White Sox pitching prospect — over the vaunted, No. 1 draft choice phenom Noah Schultz — eyebrows may have been raised.

But as tantalizing as Schultz’s potential is, he’s still just 20 years old and has yet to throw five innings in any one of his 23 pro games. Thorpe, the reigning MiLB Pitcher of the Year, hit the ground running at Birmingham and had just one of 11 starts where he FAILED to go at least five innings.

The jump to the majors directly from Double-A has hardly daunted Thorpe, either. Three of his four White Sox starts have been otherworldly, and if you throw his June 16 Arizona mauling in the garbage can, the rookie has thrown to a 1.59 ERA.
