After playing four years of successful Division I ball for Wofford College, Ryan Galanie was selected in Round 13 (No. 389) of the 2023 MLB draft by the White Sox. As a senior, Galanie had led the Southern Conference in hits, RBIs, and total bases and was named the SoCon Player of the Year. The infielder was set to transfer to the University of Tennessee for a fifth COVID year, but after being drafted by Chicago and being offered a $150,000 bonus, he decided to forgo the extra season and try his hand at professional ball.

After the draft, Galanie hit the ground running in Kannapolis after getting his feet wet in just two ACL games. He started in 28 contests for the Cannon Ballers, splitting time between first base and DH and slashing .276/.336/.407 with a .743 OPS. In the field, Galanie was top-notch as well, making only one error over 157 innings.

For 2024, the Sox again assigned him to Kanny, and his performance over those 38 games is why he made the cut for our Sox Populi All-Star team. He hit .346/.432/.582 with a 1.014 OPS, seven dingers, and 39 RBIs. His defense was also spot-on, as he only made one error in 238 total chances at first. Those outstanding numbers also earned the 24-year-old the Carolina Division Player of the Month honor (May) and a promotion to Winston-Salem on June 4, where he spent the remainder of the season.

Unfortunately, High-A proved to be much more challenging for Galanie, and he couldn’t sustain the early-season offensive success he had with the CBs. He hit only .213/.338/.378 with a .716 OPS. Defensively, though, he was terrific on the field, making every single play — perfection! Congratulations to Ryan!
