Chicago White Sox: Arizona Fall League Week 4 Recap (October 28-November 3)

Only seven members of the White Sox minor league system saw action for the Glendale Desert Dogs this past week. The DDs captured two wins and two losses over the stretch and sit in second place overall with a 12-9 record.

Eric Adler
Adler’s only appearance of the week was in Wednesday’s 8-7 win against the league-leading Surprise Saguaros. The 23-year-old came out for the fourth and tossed one inning, giving up one run on three hits. He has earned a 7.00 ERA over six appearances and nine innings pitched so far in the AFL. One fun nugget for you on Adler is that according to Statcast, he has the No. 1 top average spin rate in the league (2,950 rpm) on his curveball. So, the stuff is there; he just needs to keep working on controlling the zone.

Andrew Dalquist
The righthander pitched two innings in Thursday’s 10-1 loss to the Scottsdale Scorpions. During his two frames of work, he surrendered no runs on two hits while striking out one. Dalquist has really had to grind in his six outings, so it was nice to see him pitch two quality innings.

DJ Gladney
The Oak Park native appeared in two games and went 0-for-6 with three Ks, but did work two free passes. Despite struggling at the plate, his outfield defense has been flawless, with a 1.000 fielding percentage in 24 chances.

Tim Elko
The Captain played in just one contest, as he completed his time with the AFL and headed on over to Team USA. The first baseman went out with a bang, going 3-for-5 with a double, dinger, and four RBIs in Wednesday’s victory. He had a pretty solid fall overall, hitting .267/.327/.600 with four homers, 13 RBIs, and a .927 OPS.

And in Saturday’s Team USA exhibition game, Elko knocked a three-run blast.

Team USA’s first game will be on Saturday, November 9, versus Puerto Rico. For more details on the tournament, check out their website. Eric Adler also will be representing the White Sox.

Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa
It was a tough one for AHT, as he almost blew the game for the Dogs on Wednesday and broke his four consecutive scoreless outings streak. Hoopii-Tuionetoa came in for the ninth with an 8-3 lead and allowed a three-run bomb to Collin Price. Fortunately, he was able to recover and close out the game.

Colson Montgomery
Chicago’s No. 3 prospect (MLB No. 37) wrapped up his AFL season last Friday after playing in 11 contests. He finished with a .313/.511/.656 slash line, as well as three bombs, 11 RBIs, and a 1.167 OPS over 32 at-bats.

Peyton Pallette
Peyton did not pitch this past week.

Grant Taylor
Chicago’s No. 6 prospect continues to struggle. He was the starter in Thursday’s 10-1 beat down by the Scorpions. The righty labored through one 35-pitch inning and gave up one run on three hits with one walk and strikeout.

Michael Turner
In the 2024 AFL, Turner has so far been Chicago’s second-best hitter after Montgomery. He has shared the catching duties with Leonardo Bernal and Jordan Dissin — and has outperformed both. However, at 26, Turner is 2.9 years older than the average AFL player. In one game this week, he went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and he’s slashing .400/.429/.520 with a .949 OPS.
