It’s Friday the 13th, and the White Sox continue to play scary baseball. Slashing the hopes and dreams of fans, they were shut out for the 18th time this season and moved closer to the 1962 Mets’ record.

Garrett Crochet looked great and used all five pitches, one being a newly added sinker.

He started with a strikeout to the red-hot Lawrence Butler and got Brent Rooker and Shea Langeliers with lineouts. Brady Brasso got the start for Oakland, his second of the season after a very dominant Major League debut last week. Luis Robert Jr. and Andrew Vaughn both singled, but the White Sox were unable to capitalize.

JJ Bleday had a two-out double, but Jacob Wilson would end the top of the second inning with a fly ball. Basso turned around and tossed an easy 1-2-3 inning, retiring Korey Lee, Dominic Fletcher, and Miguel Vargus.

Crochet stayed in control and had his own 1-2-3 inning in response. Jacob Amaya singled for the Sox, but was stranded because of course. What else is new?

Daz Cameron got a two-out single in the fourth after Vaughn missed the throw from Vargas at third. Zack Gelof doubled and Cameron got home from first despite a good throw to home from Amaya. Bleday struck out to end the inning and prevented another run from scoring. But hey, Fletcher robbed Rooker of a home run.

Three groundouts in a row from Vaughn, Sosa, and Lee to end the fourth. *Sigh*

Gus Varland came in for Crochet. Tyler Nevin singled with one out and Butler’s 21-game hitting streak lived on with a bloop single, putting runners in the corners with two outs.

The other half of the dynamic duo, Rooker, singled after Fletcher couldn’t get to the ball in time and Nevin scored. Rooker stole his 10th base of the season, easily getting to second without a throw. Varland thankfully ended the inning by striking out Langeliers.

Brasso started the inning by retiring the seventh Sox batter in a row, this time Robert. Vargus beat out the throw to first for a one-out single, but Amaya hit into a double play.

Robert made a running catch to rob Seth Brown of a hit in the sixth. Prelander Berroa gave up a hit, giving Gelof his second of the night. Bleday continued with a single. Jacob Wilson hit into a double play to strand two runners.

Bryan Ramos started the bottom of the sixth inning with a walk. Andrew Benintendi continued with a line drive with just one out, which prompted Brasso to give up the ball to Michel Otañez. Vaughn struck out after being up 3-0 and it was up to Sosa to put the Sox on the board. Alas, the ball was caught at the warning track.

Robert made another incredible catch in center, leaving yet another divot on the field. Berroa was pulled after two batters and was replaced by Fraser Ellard, who struck out Butler with ease to end the inning. The Lee, Fletcher, and Vargas order made it quick and easy for Otañez to end the seventh.

Langeliers drew a one-out walk against Ellard and Seth Brown singled. Gelof, who has had multiple hits this evening hit right into a double play to end the inning. Tyler Ferguson retired the Sox in order on strikeouts.

Justin Anderson came out in the ninth and struck out two batters and got a 1-2-3 inning.

Mason Miller, known for throwing fire, tossed a fastball to Vaughn for a one-out single. Ryan Noda overran a foul ball, giving Sosa another chance. Sosa worked the count to full but struck out swinging. Lee ends the game with a flyout on the final Friday night home game of the season. The White Sox reached 16 straight losses at home, the longest in franchise history.
