Should The Chicago Bears Have Drafted Jayden Daniels?
When you are a fan of the Chicago Bears, the biggest things that you have to deal with are the “what ifs.” What if the Bears decided to keep Lovie Smith after he went 10-6, instead of letting him go? What if the Bears didn’t trade all of those picks years ago to move up one spot to draft Mitch Trubisky? HELL; what if the McCaskey’s actually SOLD this team a number of years ago, instead of holding onto it until now?
They’re the absolute WORST! This team CONSTANTLY makes us fans second guess ourselves, and wonder what “could’ve been.” And that is CERTAINLY the case when it comes to the newest “hot debate” circulating the internet, involving Caleb Williams and Commanders’ QB Jayden Daniels….

Now for the record, this…..this is one of the stupidest debates that I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The fact that people are saying Jayden Daniels would have ANY MORE SUCCESS than Caleb Williams on this current Bears’ roster is asinine. If you truly believe this, then you need to get your head examined, because there is OBVIOUSLY something wrong with you.
But before I get too deep into this, let’s break down how these two passers have done so far this season.
Let’s take Jayden, for instance. The former LSU signal caller has had a VERY IMPRESSIVE start to his career. In 16 games with the Commanders, he has compiled a ROY worthy stat-line of;
69.4% Cmp, 3,530 Yds, 25 TDs, 9 INTs, 72.3 QBR
Caleb Williams on the other hand, although still impressive, hasn’t really reached that same level quite yet. With the Bears, the former Trojan has put up;
61.9 % Cmp, 3,393 Yds, 19 TDs, 6 INTs, 45.7 QBR
They are two very notable rookies in this league, who have had their own sets of issues since they started a mere 4 months ago. If you were to look at both of those stat-lines without taking their teams into account, you could assume that both the Commanders and Bears are having solid seasons. Sure, Jayden’s having a better year than Caleb. We get that, and there’s no disputing it. But to say one is a bust when compared to the other….well that’s just ignorant and unintelligent, if we’re being honest.
I mean, just look at what Caleb has had to deal with since Week 1. For starters, he has had a never-ending clown car of O-Linemen guarding him. He has had to run for his life more often than not, resulting in a league-leading 67 SACKS given up on the rook. The craziest part is those 67 sacks rank SECOND behind David Carr for most times a rookie has been sacked in a season.
Not only that; the guy also had to deal with “Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb” as his coaches for a majority of the year. He had to deal with Matt “Doesn’t Know How To Call A Timeout” Eberflus and Shane “Always Has A Weird Smile On His Face” Waldron holding the reigns, and deciding what stupid play to call. Or what formation to put him in.
With all of that incompetency around him, you could obviously see why he would have such a weird year. You could OBVIOUSLY see why he’d be struggling as a rookie. The guy hasn’t had the opportunity to transition to the next level properly, because he’s focused more on not getting killed than anything else.
But the question is…..would drafting Jayden Daniels over Caleb Williams have helped the Bears’?
The answer? Absolutely not! If the Bears took Jayden Daniels at #1 overall in the draft, he would be in the same spot that Caleb Williams is in right now. He WOULD! He would not have Kliff Kingsbury, who is a way better coordinator than Waldron. He would not have Dan Quinn, who is CERTAINLY an improvement over Matt Eberflus. And he would not have Washington’s O-Line, which has allowed pressure on 16.7% of dropbacks (7th best), compared to the Bears’ 22.7% (7th worst).
If anything…..we would probably just be seeing a completely FLIP between the two teams. If Daniels went #1, and Williams went #2; the Bears would still have 4 to 5 wins on the year and the Commanders would still be playoff bound.
But you know what? What do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
