Shawn Michaels Superkicks Kevin Owens at Saturday Night’s Main Event

Saturday can’t come soon enough for Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens.

After attacking each other for weeks, they signed the contract for their Royal Rumble ladder match last night on Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Shawn Michaels was the moderator for the contract signing in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas.

Owens wore a “Cody Sucks Eggs” T-shirt, paying homage to the classic Dusty Rhodes-Terry Funk feud.

Cody’s WWE title belt and the Winged Eagle title (which Owens stole from him) were suspended above the ring, like they will be for the ladder match.

Owens attacked Rhodes and Michaels. Cody saved Michaels from a powerbomb, and Shawn then blasted Owens with the “Sweet Chin Music” superkick.

TITLE MATCHES

World women’s champion Rhea Ripley defeated Nia Jax in the opening bout. The champion survived an Annihilator splash to win the match with the Riptide slam.

Bron Breakker won a hard-hitting battle with Sheamus to retain the Intercontinental title. Breakker targeted Sheamus’ ribs and won with a spear.

In the main event, World champion Gunther defeated Jey Uso after a pair of powerbombs.

WEREWOLF ATTACK

Jacob Fatu unleashed a devastating attack on fellow monster Braun Strowman.

While Fatu lost the match by disqualification for tossing the referee, he wiped out Strowman with a series of hip attacks in the corner and moonsaults from the top rope.

Fatu is likely to take over from Solo Sikoa as the top “bad guy” in the Samoan family.

HERE COME THE LEGENDS

One of the fun things about the Main Event is the return of stars from the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Jesse “The Body” Ventura was back on commentary for the IC title match.

Last night’s show also featured appearances by Ted DiBiase, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Alundra Blayze (aka Madusa), Dory Funk Jr., and Mark Henry.
