I hate the Chicago Bears. There, I said it; I HATE the Chicago Bears. I hate the one team that I’ve loved ever since I was a child. I hate the team that was basically “passed down to me” by my father when I was first learning about the game of football. I hate them so much, but sadly…..I will still follow them to the end of the earth. I’m like a human that’s in a toxic relationship; I want to leave, but they just keep pulling me back in.

They are the absolute worst! Year after year, they prove to the world that they are the biggest dumpster fire in the history of football. But nothing ever changes. The owners never have any answers on how to stop the mediocrity. If anything, they just sell us a bill of goods on a yearly basis, and then pretend to be “frustrated” and “upset” when those said goods don’t work out.

It’s a tale as old as time. It’s a never ending cycle of mayhem that the city of Chicago…..is done with. We are done with the nonsense, the dysfunction, and the incompetency. The city is OVER IT, and they showed their displeasure for this team at Soldier Field on Thursday, when the Bears played a HORRENDOUS game against the visiting Seattle Seahawks.

“SELL THE TEAM!” “SELL THE TEAM!” This past Thursday, those three little words became a rally-cry for the oppressed and the angry. They became a chant that echoed across the lakeside, while the Bears were trying (keyword TRYING) to play a football game. They became a message to the McCaskey’s up in their ivory towers that WE ARE DONE!

We are DONE! We are DONE with having owners who don’t care about this team. We are DONE with having people holding the reigns of the Chicago Bears, who don’t know a screen play from a screen door. This has become a never-ending carousel of mediocrity that needs to stop, and the only way for that to happen…..is if this family FINALLY sells the team.

Do it, Virginia! Do it, George! SELL THE TEAM! Grab the cheap little “For Sale” sign from the Home Depot down the street, throw it outside of Soldier Field, and start fielding offers for this once proud organization. For YEARS, this team has wasted the careers of some of the BEST players in the history of this league. For YEARS, as a fan of this organization, I’ve found myself saying the phrase “they’re going to waste this defense/player” more often than I would’ve liked. And the only constant hasn’t been the coaches, or the front office. It’s been the family at the TOP!

It’s been the 101-year old matriarch (who I still can’t believe is 101), and her weirdly-mustachioed child, who have been holding the reigns. Their finger prints are all over this team’s failures. They are the reason that this team has only been in ONE Super Bowl since the 1985 season.Their reign of terror has gone on for WAY TO LONG…..and it needs to end.

Now, will this actually happen any time soon? Probably not. They haven’t let go of the Bears yet, so why would they now? But until they prove me wrong, I have NO REASON to believe that this team will find success with the McCaskey’s in charge. I have NO REASON to believe that they will reach another Super Bowl, until Virginia and the rest of her family remove their CLUTCHES from the team.

But in the end, what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
