Seattle Mariners Expected To Fire Scott Servais Amidst Team Collapse
Just a few short months ago, the Seattle Mariners were on cruise control, leading the AL West by ten games.
On June 18th, the Mariners were 13 games above .500 and with that big AL West lead, it looked like Seattle was a shoo-in for the postseason.
Flash forward to today and Seattle is 2-8 in their last ten games and has dropped all the way to .500 at 64-64 and sits five games out of first place in the west and 7.5 out of a Wild Card spot.
Needing to shake something up, it has been reported that the Mariners will be announcing the firing of longtime manager Scott Servais.
Seattle is set to hire its former catcher Don Wilson to take over in an interim role for the time being.
Wilson has never been a part of a major league coaching staff but was a special assignment coordinator in Mariners Spring Training this year.
As for Servais, he will be done at the helm in Seattle after nine seasons tying him with Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts for the longest-tenured manager in all of baseball.
In those nine seasons, Servais posted a 680-642 with his best season coming in 2022 when the Mariners made the postseason breaking the longest North American sports postseason drought which was 21 seasons.
Unless Seattle kept up their hot start, Servias was likely going to be on the hot seat this offseason anyway and the Mariners making this move now shows they are trying anything to salvage their slipping season.
