Satou Sabally Has Strong Season Debut But Wings Dismantled By Sun

For the first time in a month, the Dallas Wings were back in action. Following the WNBA’s Olympic break, the Wings were back at the College Park Center in Arlington to take on the Connecticut Sun.

Unfortunately for Dallas, the struggles from the first half of the season carried right over as they struggled mightily on both ends in a 109-91 dismantling at the hands of the second-place Sun.

Satou Sabally made her 2024 season debut and put in a solid effort scoring 20 points with 8 rebounds and 7 assists to go along with it.

Dallas jumped out to an 8-0 run to open the game after both Arike Ogunbowale and Satou Sabally knocked down 3’s forcing a quick Connecticut timeout.

However, the Wings’ hot shooting would not continue throughout the rest of the quarter as Dallas finished the opening frame shooting just 31.6% from the field and faced a 27-20 deficit.

The Wings started to turn up the heat on the offensive end in the second quarter, using a balanced scoring attack but trailed 50-38 at the half.

It’s never a good thing when the refs start to take over a game but that’s what happened late in the second quarter as both Arike Ogunbowale and Wings head coach Latricia Trammell got technical fouls on the same play leading to four Sun points.

Dallas’ defensive effort got thrown into the limelight in the third quarter with the Sun catching fire from the field and from deep to take a huge lead that would swell through the second half.

The Wings’ defense was certainly not in sync as Connecticut shot 57.6% from the field and 41.7% from deep.

For Dallas, they shot just 43.9% as a team.

Satou Sabally coming back will hopefully eventually bring some newfound hope to this team but for now, the struggles continue as Dallas falls to just 6-19 on the season.
