Rutgers Football Has Monster Recruiting Weekend, Adds 10 New Commits

It was a busy weekend for Rutgers Football.

Head coach Greg Schiano entered an important stretch of recruiting in the offseason and added an incredible 10 recruits over the weekend.

It began on Saturday when Rutgers saw defensive lineman Miron Gurman and Braxton Kyle commit. Raedyn Bruens and Michael Clayton joined on the defensive side of the ball as well. Chase Linton became the third commit from the state of Georgia over the weekend. It became clear that Schiano made this a priority this offseason.

Vernon Allen kicked off the offensive side of the ball as a wide receiver before three-star WR Jourdin Houston announced his commitment. Houston is a sought-after wide receiver that ended his recruitment with a decision to join Rutgers.

Offensive lineman N’Kye Wynn, like Houston, capped off an incredible weekend. The four-star tackle held offers from the likes of Wisconsin, Michigan State, Purdue, Iowa State, Indiana, and Pitt. Wynn has the potential to be an anchor for the Rutgers’ offensive line moving forward.

So, what does this all mean?

Rutgers currently has 18 commits in the Class of 2025. This is the third most to this point of the offseason, behind only Notre Dame and Syracuse. The Scarlet Knights class ranks 12th in the nation and fourth in the Big Ten.

Schiano has prioritized keeping players in-state but has also ventured out and this year, it includes Georgia. We have seen Schiano recruit Florida well and he remains South and has added players from the state of Georgia. This shows that Rutgers is working to become nationally relevant and it is happening within recruiting.

The Scarlet Knights are coming off a season where they reached six wins before defeating Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl. This was a major step taken. Heading into 2024, Rutgers will return plenty of production on both sides of the ball, especially from a defense that was among the best in the nation. Minnesota transfer Athan Kaliakmanis was named starting quarterback and this should give the team a better chance within the passing game.

There is plenty of hype around Rutgers Football for the first time in a long time. This comes immediately in 2024 but Schiano is making sure that the program is in good hands for years to come.
