Every Rockie Ever Podcast: The Rockies from Asia

In this new episode of Every Rockie Ever Skyler and Dustin look back on the Rockies’ brief history with players from Asia. While it’s well known the team is quite involved in Latin America, there has been very little dabbling with players from the Asia market. Still, throughout their history, they have acquired several pitchers over 30 years. Unfortunately, most of them haven’t had very successful careers in purple. The Rockies have seen players from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan suit up in purple. Some have set records, some were flashes in the pan, but all played a small role on the mound.

A few weeks ago the show covered the lone position player Kaz Matsui. In addition to him, the team has utilized seven pitchers hailing from Asia in their 30-year history. They’ve been a mixed bag of results with glimpses of quality performance, but overall it’s apparent that the Rockies don’t put much effort into scouting the Asian market. All but one player was acquired via trade, but injuries and underperformance may have left a bad taste in the team’s mouth and left them unlikely to ever be involved in the posting system.
