Affected by Altitude Episode 149: Mullet No More
This episode was recorded on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Stats and events may not be current at time of posting.
Rocky Mountain Rooftop is the Colorado Rockies affiliate of Fans First Sports Network dedicated to covering all things Rockies. Our flagship podcast Affected by Altitude, hosted by Evan Lang and Skyler Timmins, covers all the happenings of the big league club. Other shows under the RMR banner include Every Rockie Ever and Rooftop Mingle featuring player interviews.
This week, Evan and Skyler discuss the return of one Charlie Blackmon to the Colorado Rockies. Freshly shorn of his mullet and freshly retired, Blackmon has been named a special assistant to the general manager. His job duties will include all aspects of baseball operations in a part-time role as Chuck tries to figure out what exactly he wants to do in his next chapter of life. It’s a role held by several other former Rockies greats and Blackmon will make occasional appearances with the big league squad while also doing a bit of light scouting.
Meanwhile, the Rockies have named their non-roster invitees to spring training. THe list features a number of veterans vying for depth spots but as well as number of prospects looking to take the next step forward and put impress the big league squad. The guys also ask why Nick Martini is listed as an infielder. Additionally, MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospect ranking emerged with Charlie Condon and Chase Dollander ranking in the Top 30. Condon is primed to have a breakout 2025 while Dollander could very well make his debut out of spring training.
Finally, we wrap things up with projections and expectations for first baseman Michael Toglia. It was a breakout year for Toglia as the switch-hitting slugger took over a regular role in June and did not relinquish his spot in the lineup. He clubbed 25 home runs and showed improvements in his discipline at the plate, something we hope will continue into 2025. With quality defense to go along with the offensive profile, Toglia could be the mid-lineup power threat the team desperately needs if he can keep improving.
