Affected by Altitude Episode 140: Farmer Stallings had a Team
Rocky Mountain Rooftop is the Colorado Rockies affiliate of Fans First Sports Network dedicated to covering all things Rockies. Our flagship podcast Affected by Altitude, hosted by Evan Lang and Skyler Timmins, covers all the happenings of the big league club. Other shows under the RMR banner include Every Rockie Ever and Rooftop Mingle featuring player interviews.
This week, Skyler and Evan are here to discuss the Colorado Rockies’ actions over the past week. The non-tender deadline was last Friday and the Rockies chose to part ways with pitcher Cal Quantrill and, more surprisingly, Brendan Rodgers. The moves appear mainly to be about cutting payroll and making way for young players. Quantrill had an excellent first couple of months but regressed from July to the end of the season while Rodgers has never quite lived up to the hype that was thrust upon him as the third overall pick in 2015. However, instead of just turning to the youth, the Rockies signed 34-year-old second baseman Kyle Farmer within hours of cutting Rodgers, a move that that is certainly perplexing.
The Rockies also reunited with catcher Jacob Stallings after a career year in 2024 and hope he can help mentor a young backup catcher and boost the performance of what will be a seasoned rotation. Finally, beloved Rockies icons Carlos González and Troy Tulowitzki are on the ballot for the 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame and the guys break down their odds of making it in.
