Affected by Altitude Episode 135: The Man of the People No More
Rocky Mountain Rooftop is the Colorado Rockies affiliate of Fans First Sports Network dedicated to covering all things Rockies. Our flagship podcast Affected by Altitude, hosted by Evan Lang and Skyler Timmins, covers all the happenings of the big league club. Other shows under the RMR banner include Every Rockie Ever and Rooftop Mingle featuring player interviews.
This week, Evan and Skyler discuss the freshest slate of departures from the Colorado Rockies in pitchers Peter Lambert and Dakota Hudson, as well as the Man of the People in outfielder Jake Cave. Cave was initially brought in as a fourth outfield backup but as injuries and underperformance ravaged the outfield, Cave found himself playing more than ever in his career and he made the most of his opportunities. However, the Rockies had to make a choice between him and Sam Hilliard and they have gone with the latter. Hudson on the other hand couldn’t be happier to leave Colorado after a nightmare season where he couldn’t stop walking people and kept getting hit hard. Lastly, Lambert never quite found his place with the Rockies after injuries derailed his career and he hasn’t quite found a spot in the rotation.
The Rockies will certainly save some money by dropping those players, but what will become of the other arbitration-eligible players? Cal Quantrill is due the biggest payday, but the team is surely motivated to move him if they can. Austin Gomber and Brendan Rodgers also fit into that camp as all three are in their final year of team control. Lastly, the guys round out their roster talk by looking over the players eligible for the Rule-5 Draft.
