Rockets Win Thriller Against Top Seeded Cavs
The Houston Rockets just played what will go down as one of if not their best wins of the season.
Houston took down the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers 109-108 in an instant classic of the Rockets’ new golden era.
With 4.5 seconds left and the Rockets up by two points, Tari Eason committed a flagrant foul on 90% free throw shooter Darius Garland.
Just when it looked like the Rockets were down and out, Garland missed two of the three technical free throws in a shocking turn of events.
Still, with a chance to get the ball back and potentially tie or win the game, the Rockets came up with a huge stop to seal the win.
At one point in the 4th quarter, the Cavs scored 18 straight points as the Rockets went into a severe dry spell.
Fred VanVleet stepped up and led the Rockets with 26 points, on 7-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
Amen Thompson had another strong all-around effort 16 points and an impressive 16 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
Alperen Sengun had just 18 points but the two biggest of the night as he sunk a pair of free throws with 4.5 seconds left to give the Rockets the lead.
Houston had two double-digit scorers off the bench with Cam Whitmore and Tari Eason coming through with 16 and 12 respectively.
The Rockets will be back in action on Saturday night against these same Cavs in Cleveland. For the Cavs, it will be the second night of a back-to-back as they visit the 76ers on Friday.
