Rockets Take Close Battle Against Pistons
The Houston Rockets were back in the win column on Sunday afternoon, taking a 101-99 victory against the Detroit Pistons.
After scoring just 11 points in Houston’s crushing loss to the Thunder on Friday, Alpren Sengun bounced back in a huge way.
Sengun led the Rockets scoring 27 points on 11-17 shooting while snagging ten rebounds and dishing out two assists.
With 2:28 left in the game, Sengun came up clutch with a putback to give the Rockets a 96-95 lead that they would never look back from.
Despite that clutch play, Houston probably shouldn’t have been in that situation to begin with given the lead they had.
With nine minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Houston led 84-72 but a 16-3 Pistons run put them right back in it.
It was a struggle for most of the Rockets’ usual suspects as Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet combined for just 22 points.
Green had 15 including an emphatic slam on fellow 2021 first-round pick Cade Cunnigham. VanVleet had just seven.
Dillion Brooks put together yet another solid performance as he scored 14 points and finished as a team-high +14.
Off the bench, Houston once again got an amazing game from Tari Eason as he scored 18 points and had nine rebounds.
The Rockets were able to stay in the game despite a tough shooting first half. 3 point struggles continued for Houston as they shot just 3 of 16 in the opening half.
For the game, Houston shot just 7-34 in an effort that will certainly need to be cleaned up moving forward.
The Rockets won’t have long to make those adjustments as they will be back in action Monday night as they take on the Washington Wizards at the Toyota Center.
