Rockets Pick Up Statement Win Over Thunder

If the NBA world didn’t know how good the Houston Rockets were coming into play on Sunday night, they do now.

Houston took down the West’s number one-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder for a huge 119-116 victory.

Fred VanVleet led the way for the Rockets with his best game of the season scoring 38 points including a three-pointer from the parking lot to tie the game at 108.

VanVleet would knock down another three-pointer to give Houston a 113-110 lead before knocking down four straight free throws to seal the game.

Dillion Brooks had 16 points but none bigger than the turnaround jumper he hit with 33 seconds left to give Houston the lead after OKC had a hold on the game for much of the fourth quarter.

Alperen Sengun had another solid effort scoring 20 points while snagging an impressive 14 rebounds to go along with it.

Finishing with nine assists, Sengun was just one shy of yet another impressive triple-double as he continues to prove himself as one of the best centers in the NBA.

Jabari Smith Jr who played all 40 minutes in the game scored 15 points with a solid night on the defensive end securing 14 rebounds and 3 blocks.

For the Rockets, it’s their third straight victory including having won five of their last six contests as they continue their surge up the standings.

Nearly a quarter of the way into the season, the Rockets’ 15-6 record has them in second place in the Western Conference.

Just half a game behind the first-place Thunder who Houston has now split the season series with up until this point.

Houston will be back in action on Tuesday night when they take on the Sacramento Kings in their final game of the NBA Cup Group Stage.

The Rockets have already clinched their spot in the quarter-finals of the NBA Cup after their overtime win over the Timberwolves last week.
