Rockets Hold Off Mavs For Rivalry Win
Once again, it wasn’t a complete four-quarters from the Houston Rockets but yet again, they found a way to win.
Houston held off a late fourth-quarter comeback attempt from the Dallas Mavericks to secure a 108-102 win on Halloween night.
Jalen Green continued his scorching hot start to the season dropping 23 points with a +/- rating of +12.
Green was one of six Rockets with positives of +/- as Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason, Amen Thompson, Reed Sheppard, and Dillon Brooks were all on the positive side.
Brooks had by far his best game of the young season as he scored 17 points along with four rebounds and two assists.
Defensively, the Rockets showcased a solid team effort all night, holding Dallas to just 102 points which is tied for their lowest total of the season.
Houston came out of the gates firing as they held a 34-21 lead after the first quarter. Late in the third, the Rockets would lead by as many as 23.
The Mavericks, however, wouldn’t go away as Dallas cut the lead down to as little as three in the fourth quarter.
With 1:12 to go and the Rockets up 100-97, Jalen Green nailed a step-back three to give Houston some breathing room and put them up by six.
After that, both Amen Thompson and Dillion Brooks hit clutch mid-range jump shots to put this game away.
Despite shooting just 41.2% on the night, Houston was able to outscore the Mavs 58-44 in the paint and 18-13 on the fast break.
The defending Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks never had a lead at any point in this one despite giving the Rockets a little Halloween scare.
Houston will be back in action tomorrow when they return to the Toyota Center to take on the Golden State Warriors.
Warriors superstar Steph Curry has been out since October 27th when he suffered an ankle injury in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
