Rockets Dismantle Blazers In NBA Cup
The Houston Rockets improved to 2-0 in the Emirates NBA Cup in a big way on Friday night at the Toyota Center.
Houston dominated the Portland Trailblazers 116-88 in a statement win to improve to 12-5 on the season.
Once again, it was a balanced scoring attack with multiple huge contributors that fueled the Houston blowout.
None bigger than Dillion Brooks who had a season-high 28 points while snagging six rebounds and going 6-8 from deep.
Brooks’ six three-pointers were a career-high as the Canadian native is now shooting 39.6% from beyond the arc this season.
Tari Eason continued his eye-popping season scoring 22 points on 8-14 shooting in just 22 minutes off the bench.
His fellow bench star Amen Thompson finished with a double-double scoring 10 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Jalen Green had just 17 on the night but perhaps the two biggest points as he threw down a powerful one-handed slam early in the second quarter.
The best pass of the night goes to Reed Sheppard who while diving into the front row, flipped a three-quarters court behind the back pass to spring Tari Eason on a breakaway for an easy slam.
Sheppard finished at +15 as he recorded three points, two assists, three steals, and two blocks in what was easily his best defensive game.
Houston now lead West Group A with a 2-0 record through the first half of NBA Cup group stage games.
Overall, the Rockets have outscored opponents by 163 points this season, the highest total through the first 17 games of a season in franchise history.
Next up for the Rockets is another date with these same Blazers on Saturday night once again at the Toyota Center.
NBA Cup play will resume for the Rockets on Tuesday when they travel to the Twin Cities to take on the T-Wolves.
