Rockets Can’t Overcome 2nd Quarter Struggles In Loss To Thunder
After a first quarter that ended tied at 31, the Houston Rockets struggled mightily in the second quarter, losing it 44-20.
The Oklahoma City Thunder used their monstrous quarter to cruise to a 126-107 victory snapping the Rocket’s brief two-game winning streak.
Defensively, the Rockets struggled all night but they just didn’t have an answer for the Thunder’s superstars.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren each scored 29 points. Gilgeous-Alexander made ten of his first eleven shots.
As a team, the Thunder shot 61.% from the field and 52.9% from deep in the first half, most of which was fueled by the second quarter.
Houston’s stars did not have the same success on Friday night. The Rockets’ young duo of Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green both never found their rhythm.
Green was tied for a team-high with fourteen points but twelve of those came in the first half. On the night Green shot just 5-14.
Sengun put up a 3-12 night as he struggled around the rim where he is usually so strong. He would finish with just 11 points.
Fred VanVleet came into the night following his two best games of the season but he also couldn’t get it going as he finished with 11 points.
Dillion Brooks had the best offensive night for the Rockets scoring 17 points on 6-12 shooting while knocking down 3 three-pointers.
Coming off the bench, Amen Thompson had another strong game, tying Green for a team-high with 14 points.
Thompson also had seven rebounds to go along with it, continuing his all-around strong start to the season.
Houston’s road trip continues on Sunday when they will travel to Detroit to take on a red-hot Cade Cunningham and the Pistons.
