Rangers Strike Deal To Resign Nathan Eovaldi
From the very beginning of the MLB Offseason, Rangers President Of Baseball Operations Chris Young was clear what his top priority was.
Late on Tuesday night during the MLB Winter Meetings in Dallas, the Rangers accomplished that top priority.
Texas and Nathan Eovaldi agreed on a three-year $75 million contract to keep the Rangers star in Arlington.
Last season, Eovaldi went 12-8 with a 3.80 ERA in a season limited by multiple stints to the injured list.
In 2023, Eovaldi was a hero in the Rangers first World Series title going 5-0 in six starts during the postseason.
Eovaldi started the clinching Game Five of the World Series and threw six shutout innings in the 5-0 win over Arizona.
Coming into the offseason there were questions as to what funds the Rangers would be putting into free agency but so far, finances haven’t seemed to be an issue.
With Kyle Higashioka and now Nathan Eovaldi, the Rangers have now committed around $30 million to the team’s payroll.
Still need to upgrade the bullpen, and possibly add one more starter and a bat, that number will only rise.
As for the rotation, Eovaldi will slide right to the top alongside Jacob deGrom giving the Rangers one the best 1-2 punches in baseball.
Rounding out the rotation will be some form of Tyler Mahle, Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Dane Dunning, Kumar Rocker, and Jack Leiter.
Next up for the Rangers’ offseason agenda will be creating a bullpen that will need at least 2-3 arms.
Bruce Bochy said that Texas is “talking to everyone” when it comes to getting their bullpen figured out.
We know that the Rangers have shown interest in Braves reliever AJ Minter who is a Tyler Texas Native.
The Rangers have also met in person with DFW native and former Texas relief pitcher Chris Martin.
