Rangers Sign Reliever Jacob Webb
The first piece of the major Rangers bullpen rebuild has officially been completed just before the end of the Winter Meetings.
RHP Jacob Webb and the Rangers have agreed to a one-year deal that will slide him into the Texas bullpen in 2025.
Last season with the Baltimore Orioles, Webb pitched to the tune of a strong 3.02 ERA in 56.2 innings.
Rangers fans may not have seen Webb a ton but one memorable moment makes him familiar to North Texans.
Webb was the pitcher who allowed Mitch Garver’s grand slam that blew Game Two of the 2023 ALDS open.
After six seasons with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and the O’s, Webb hit free agency.
In 2021, Webb pitched 32.1 innings on the Braves team that went on to defeat the Houston Astros in the World Series.
Texas is looking for Webb to be another low-risk high-reward signing such as the one that saw Kirby Yates become an All-Star in 2024.
Looking towards 2024, Webb will head into a bullpen which will still be added to through the remainder of the offseason.
When speaking to reporters yesterday, Bruce Bochy said that the Rangers are in on “just about everybody” in terms of relievers.
On Monday, the Rangers met with former Texas reliever and Arlington native Chris Martin about a potential reunion.
Texas also has some reported interest in Tyler Texas native and former Atlanta Braves’ LHP AJ Minter.
