Rangers Bring In Joc Pederson To Round Out Lineup
The Texas Rangers lineup is now complete.
In the wee hours of the morning, the Texas Rangers and Joc Pederson agreed to a two-year $37 million contract. The contract comes with an opt-out after the first year.
When the Rangers make the signing official, they will need to make a corresponding 40-man roster move to clear a spot for Pederson.
Pederson immediately comes in and fixes two major issues of the Rangers’ struggling offense in 2024.
With the ability to hit right-handed pitching and also being able to do damage against the fastball, Pederson can do what the Rangers didn’t last season.
Texas has the flexibility to play Pederson in the outfield but the bulk of his playing time will likely come as a DH.
Last season with Arizona, Pederson was nearly a three-win player after slashing .275/.393/.515 with 23 home runs and 64 RBI.
After that strong season upon hitting free agency, it seemed almost inevitable that Pederson would end up with the Rangers.
Chris Young and the Rangers front office had Pederson high on their free-agent board from the beginning.
Sources confirmed that Texas had an interest in Pederson pretty much from the jump of the offseason.
However, it wasn’t always sure that the Rangers would have the finances to pull off a move like this.
With the Rangers shedding Nathaniel Lowe’s salary by trading him to the Nationals yesterday, it freed up some salary for the rest of the free agent haul.
Said haul will still need to include a closer and at least another reliever to round out the bullpen makeover.
