Rangers Add Two College Baseball Stars On Night One Of MLB Draft
The 2024 MLB Draft took on the country as all 30 teams made their selections at the world-famous Stock Yards in Fort Worth Texas.
For the Texas Rangers, it was a short 30-minute drive to pick last in both the first and second rounds after winning the World Series.
Despite picking in the back end of both rounds, the Rangers made out with two stars of College Baseball.
With the 30th and final pick in the first round, Texas took Stanford catcher Malcolm Morre. In two seasons with the Cardinal, Moore slashed .288/.399./.560/.958 with 31 home runs and 99 RBI in 118 games.
Many people did believe that the Rangers would take a catcher in the first round but many mocks had projected it to be Sam Houston State’s Walker Janek.
Janek went off the board just two picks before Texas as he went to the rival Houston Astros at pick 28.
With the final pick on night one of the draft, the Rangers made a move that many are considering to be the steal of the draft.
Texas selected Tennesse outfielder Dylan Dreiling who was a standout for the national champs after two solid seasons in Rocky Top.
In both seasons he played at Tennesse, Dreiling slashed .341/.459/.715/1.174 (84-246) with 23 home runs, 2 triples, 19 doubles, and 75 RBI.
However, it’s what he did in Omaha this year that helped his draft stock abundantly.
Dreiling went 13-24 (.542) with three home runs and 11 RBI over six games at the College World Series helping lead Tennesse to a National Championship.
As for the rest of the draft, the Rangers will continue to have pick 30 the rest of the way after winning the World Series last season.
For Rangers fans, that is a tradeoff that they have been dreaming of for years.
