Rangers Activate Josh Jung in Flury Of 11 Roster Moves
If you’re a Texas Rangers fan, your head is probably spinning right now. Texas announced eleven roster moves prior to the Rangers series opener in St Louis against the Cardinals tonight.
The highlight of the eleven is the activation of 3rd baseman Josh Jung who has missed 102 straight games since fracturing his wrist way back on April 1st.
Jung will have a scheduled off day today but will be available off the bench and is expected to start tomorrow night.
Another injury reinforcement coming back for the Rangers is LHP Cody Bradford. Prior to going on the IL in early April, Bradford started the season on an insane run going 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA in three starts.
Bradford won’t be going back into the rotation as the Rangers have built him back up as a reliever to try and bolster up the bullpen before the return of Jacob deGrom and Tyler Mahle.
Ezequiel Duran and Gerson Garabito have both been recalled from AAA Round Rock as Texas looks for a spark in the lineup and innings out of the pen after a tough pitching series in Toronto.
Duran slashed 277/.302/.554/.856 (23-83) with 5 home runs, 2 triples, 4 doubles, and 16 RBI in 19 games during his stint with AAA Round Rock. Just today he was named the Pacific Coast League’s Player of the Week.
Garabito has a 1.35 ERA in 6.2 innings during two stints with the Rangers this season. He will plug into a Rangers bullpen that needs some relief after Texas got just two outs from its starters the last two days in Toronto.
On the negative side of things, Jon Gray has been placed on the 15-day IL with a right groin straight after failing to throw a single pitch during Sunday’s finale against the Blue Jays.
Evan Carter’s IL stint has also been adjusted following a setback in his rehab. Carter has been moved from the 10 to the 60-day IL with his lumbar strain.
Trade season is in full effect and the Rangers are already participating.
After Texas acquired him from the Tigers yesterday, Carson Kelly will become the Rangers’ new backup catcher. Andrew Kizner has been sent to AAA Round Rock to make room for Kelly on the roster.
Infielders Justin Foscue and Jonathan Ornelas will join Kizner on the trip to Round Rock.
Davis Wendzel and Austin Pruitt will see their Rangers tenures come to an end as they have both been DFA’d
