Penta Debuts on WWE Raw: 5 Future Opponents
“The worst kept secret” was out of the bag. Penta officially made his WWE debut on Monday Night Raw in the evening’s first match, defeating Chad Gable from American Made.
The event happened in San Jose with Penta’s family front row on the hard-cam side. The former AEW superstar has officially jumped ship and the secret wasn’t kept well at all, as Michael Cole pointed out on commentary. Earlier on Monday, WWE Shop released official Penta gear, including a replica mask.
The overall match was good and is available on-demand for Netflix subscribers. A brand new roster and locker room for Penta should excite fans for the new matchups and stories that can be told. This is why it’s good for multiple companies to be thriving and WWE did secure a key free agent in the wrestling pool of 2025.
Penta will likely await the pending arrival of his brother Rey Fenix, the other half of the Lucha Brothers. Fenix still has time on his AEW contract due to injury and many are speculating he will join Penta in WWE as soon as he is able. So until we can get Penta back in tag team action, there are still dream matchups we want to see for Penta in singles competition.
Check Chad Gable off the list. Here are others Penta should wrestle in 2025.
DRAGON LEE
Any diehard WWE fan would scratch their head about Dragon Lee because both Dragon Lee and Penta are being presented as babyfaces, the good guys in wrestling. However, if you are not familiar with Dragon Lee’s work in Ring of Honor or CMLL, you need to familiarize yourself with a quick YouTube search. Dragon Lee is one of the best in-ring luchadors in the world and there was a lot of hype for Dragon Lee coming to WWE originally. Their language will not be a barrier in the ring and will provide the most familiarity to Penta when working inside the ring.
We can set aside our preconceived bubbles to watch great in-ring action, and there’s no matchup I’d be more excited about than Dragon Lee versus Penta.
DIRTY DOMINIK MYSTERIO
Dirty Dom put himself in the middle of a love triangle with Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley that ended with him getting kicked below the belt in front of the world on Raw’s Netflix debut. The amount of conviction the WWE Universe has to vehemently despise Dominik Mysterio for treating his father Rey Mysterio so poorly, combined with his antics in the love triangle, is polar opposite to the WWE Universe’s reaction to Penta’s arrival in WWE.
If you enjoyed Dominik Mysterio getting what he deserved on the Netflix debut, you will love Penta breaking Dominik’s arm with his finisher, The Sacrifice.
LUDWIG KAISER
Another character in the mid-card scene fans love to hate is Ludwig Kaiser. He has such a punchable face and Penta could do the favors. Ludwig Kaiser is obviously going to be an important piece in WWE’s new era, but he needs someone else to interact with aside from Sheamus. This would give Kaiser an ability to carry the story on the microphone, sell with his facial expressions in the ring, and draw really good matches with Penta.
And if this ever led to Penta and Gunther down the road, sign me up!
PETE DUNNE
Pete Dunne is currently in a story with R-Truth over his old identity he’s trying to bury, Butch as a member of the Brawling Brutes. It feels like Pete Dunne is just biding time until his New Catch Republic tag team partner, Tyler Bate, to return from injury. Some reports suggest Bate might be closer to returning in the early part of 2025 but Dunne needs a match to remind people how serious he can be in the ring. The style from Dunne’s early NXT UK days could create a great match with Penta.
And setting up a potential Lucha Brothers versus New Catch Republic match would entice any wrestling fan for later in 2025.
REY MYSTERIO
Can you make a list for a newly signed luchador and not place Rey Mysterio on that list? Mysterio is the ultimate greatest luchador of all-time, especially when it comes to the impact he’s made in WWE with his longevity and marketability. Every luchador has been compared, fair or not, to Rey Mysterio. Mysterio is the standard for luchador wrestling and while he’s still able to go in the ring, WWE should not pass up on this opportunity of having Penta versus Rey Mysterio in the WWE archive.
Penta’s mask was already released on WWE Shop today, as mentioned earlier. We’ll see how initial merchandise sales go, but we also need to see how he can hang with Rey Mysterio in a WWE ring in the WWE style.
