Pacioretty Scores Twice in 3-2 Win vs Anaheim
After a close win in New Jersey, the Leafs are back at home facing off against the Anaheim Ducks.
Max Pacioretty scored twice in this matchup with the Ducks. William Nylander also scored and John Tavares snagged a pair of assists.
Pacioretty scored the first of the game off a great backhand feed from Tavares, with a great effort to put the puck in the back of the net, giving the Leafs the early lead.
“Chemistry with Johnny knowing that he’s going to throw it behind him, and I think when you play with top notch players like that, chemistry just seems to keep growing and growing and I think that was an example of that,” Pacioretty said.
Nylander made it 2-0 at 14:17 when he swatted a loose puck out of the air over Dostal’s glove. This goal gave Nylander his team-leading 18th of the season.
Max Pacioretty made it 3-1 at 12:54 of the second period when he was able to just barely deflect a point shot from Conor Timmins in the slot. Max Pacioretty has 4 goals in 16 games for the Maple Leafs this season.
“I’m not trying to score on that, the play was just to get the puck to the net,” Timmins said. “That was our plan all night to just be really direct with it especially after last game and he did a great job getting body position and getting a stick on it.”
Craig Berube commented on the results of the game and of the Leafs’ strong third period.
“Pretty good game, really good third I thought with the lead,” Berube said. “We only gave up one chance in the third, but we had lots of opportunities to score and didn’t put it in the net enough. But I thought our game was pretty good.”
Anthony Stolarz made 7 saves in this game, before being replaced to start the second period by Joseph Woll. Stolarz is listed with a lower body injury, but there was nothing in the period that looked notable.
Toronto’s next matchup comes on the first half of a back-to-back against the Detroit Red Wings, then the next night against the Buffalo Sabres.
