Oba Femi, Guilia Win NXT Championships at New Year’s Evil
Oba Femi kicked off 2025 by capturing the NXT championship last night at New Year’s Evil in Los Angeles.
He won a Triple Threat match by pinning champion Trick Williams. Eddy Thorpe was the third man in the match.
Earlier in the night, Thorpe was attacked backstage. General Manager Ava didn’t believe Thorpe after he staged an attack on himself several weeks ago.
Femi even admitted that he had attacked Thorpe, and Ava didn’t care!
LOTS OF WOMEN’S ACTION
Guilia defeated Roxanne Perez in the first NXT match of the new year to win the NXT women’s title.
So the WWE crowned new women’s champions on all three shows to start 2025. Tiffany Stratton won the belt on Smackdown, and Rhea Ripley regained her title on Raw.
Don’t be surprised if Trick Williams and Roxanne Perez graduate to Raw or Smackdown, perhaps as soon as the Royal Rumble.
Stephanie Vaquer won a four-way match over Cora Jade, Lola Vice, and Kelani Jordan.
Tatum Paxley, Gigi Dolin & Shotzi defeated Fatal Influence when Shotzi pinned Fallon Henley. She will face Vaquer next week for a shot at Henley’s women’s North American title.
Lexis King retained the Heritage Cup in a one-fall Sudden Death match against Charlie Dempsey.
THE ROCK SHOWS UP
The Rock appeared at the end of the show, speaking to the crowd until time ran out. He didn’t have much to say.
“The Great One” did say something interesting earlier in the night while his daughter, Ava, was talking to Ethan Page. Rock told Page, “See you on the main roster.”
