NXT Deadline Preview: What is an Iron Survivor Match?
Tonight’s NXT Deadline event on Peacock is built around the Iron Survivor match.
This is a combination of a Royal Rumble match (staggered entry) and an Iron Man match (keeping score with a time limit).
Last year, Blair Davenport and Trick Williams were the winners. They earned title matches, and Trick was successful in winning the NXT title.
So, drawing an early number is a disadvantage, in that you have to wrestle longer. Also, you are continually being attacked by a new, fresh opponent.
However, an early number also gives you more time to score victories and run up your score.
On the other hand, drawing the last number (5) makes you the freshest competitor, but it gives you the least amount of time to score victories.
The winners will earn title matches in the future.
THE LINEUP
Trick Williams will defend the NXT championship in the main event against Ridge Holland in Minneapolis. Holland earned the shot with a win over Andre Chase that put Chase University out of business.
The men’s Iron Survivor should be a high-flying affair with Wes Lee, Je’Von Evans and Nathan Frazier.
Ethan Page will keep the action grounded. Eddy Thorpe is a question mark after being attacked at the end of the last NXT show.
The women’s match will have a lot of international flavor, with Sol Ruca and Wren Sinclair (USA) mixing it up with Stephanie Vaquer (Mexico), Zaria (Australia), and Giulia (Japan).
Lola Vice will take on Jaida Parker in a no-ropes NXT Underground match.
Frazier will pull double duty by teaming with Axiom to defend the NXT tag team title against Tavion Heights & Myles Borne of the No Quarter Catch Crew.
