What To Expect From Eric Stokes In 2024
One of the hungriest players heading into the 2024 season has to be Packers cornerback Eric Stokes. After dealing with major injuries each of the last two seasons, the former 2021 first-round pick is looking to have a bounce-back season in a contract year. But with all of the depth at cornerback, it may be tough for him to regain some of his starting snaps back. However, if he is healthy and hungry, Green Bay should be all the better for it as they look forward to this season.
With a new defensive coordinator and a host of depth at cornerback, Green Bay fans need to consider everything while predicting what Stokes could do in his fourth NFL season.
What Should Green Bay Fans Expect From Stokes?
As a rookie in 2021, Stokes had a very impressive campaign. He started 14 games and led the Packers in pass deflections (14). His 4.3 speed is also a quality that drew Green Bay to him. Unfortunately, he was hit with major ankle and hamstring injuries that caused him to miss a combined 25 games over the next two NFL seasons.
Packers fans should expect a similar output to that of his rookie season. However, it might scale back due to Green Bay having Jaire Alexander, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine, and possibly another rookie or two in the fold at the position. Plus, he will be playing for a new coordinator in former defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley.
If he can pour in 50 or 60 tackles, 5-10 pass deflections and start more than a few games, it will be a successful season for him. After all, returning from major lower-body injuries in the NFL is a very difficult journey.
But remember, getting a healthy Eric Stokes back in the fold would be a dream for a Green Bay defense that finished 17th in the NFL last season.
