What the Jameis Winston Start Sunday means for Browns Fans

Last Sunday afternoon at Huntington Bank Field, Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Deshaun Watson was lost for the season due to an Achilles Tendon injury. It was a non-contact injury, and he is expected to make a full recovery. The recovery time for this injury is estimated to be 9 to 12 months. So, Watson is lost for the season. That brings up back up quarterback Jameis Winston to play the remainder of the 2024 season.

Jameis Winston was the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In Winston’s NCAA career he led Florida State to a National Championship. And in his NFL career he has a record as a starter of 34-46, a 61.1% completion percentage, 142 touchdowns, and 99 interceptions. He is a capable NFL starting quarterback. He can come in and be productive for the Cleveland Browns. And the Cleveland Browns certainly need all the help they can get.

Last week’s home game against the Bengals was one of the most productive games offensively for the Browns this season. The reason for that was the offensive line was the healthiest that game. That can carry over into the Baltimore Ravens game.

Browns quarterback Dorian Thomson-Robinson is still dealing with an injured finger to his throwing hand, this is why the Browns signed quarterback Bailey Zappe from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. He will probably serve as Winston’s backup this week.

The Ravens are 9-point favorites in the game Sunday afternoon, and they are coming off a short week from playing on Monday Night Football in Tampa Bay. For Cleveland Browns fans the 2024 season seems lost at this point. Fans feel it could be best to tank the season and draft Watson’s replacement next April. I don’t think the Cleveland Browns feel that is the best course of action, and if they win on Sunday, some short-sighted people will actually be upset for winning a game.
