What The Berry and Stefanski Extensions Tells Browns Fans
Earlier this week the news dropped from Berea Ohio that the Cleveland Browns officially signed both General Manager Andrew Berry and Head Coach Kevin Stefanski to multi year extensions. This was merely a formality and was expected since the end of the 2023 season. The news was welcomed by Browns fans. But what does it say to those same Browns fans?
For the first time in the 21st century the Cleveland Browns have stability. With this signing of extensions to Berry and Stefanski it shows a level of trust from the Haslam family. The fans have been able to watch both men grow and evolve in their roles with the Cleveland Browns. This means that Browns fans can expect continued stability and success that they once envied from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. Another question is what can be considered a successful 2024 season?
A successful 2024 season would be more than another playoff appearance. We as Browns fans expect a deep playoff run and conference championship game appearance. The last time the Cleveland Browns played for the AFC Championship was at the end of the 1989 season. And that was the last time the Cleveland Browns won a division title. These expectations are not at all unreasonable.
Since 2020 when both Stefanski and Berry were hired, the Cleveland Browns have gone 38-32 including the playoffs. That is a .543 winning percentage over four seasons. Last season this team went 11-6 and made the playoffs with 26% of their salary cap on injured reserve. They beat the San Francisco 49ers with PJ Walker starting at quarterback. And they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers with Dorian Thomson-Robinson at quarterback. They were also missing Nick Chubb for almost 16 games. If the 2024 Cleveland Browns stay healthy? It is reasonable to see this team contend for an AFC North Championship and an AFC Championship. What is unreasonable is to think otherwise, which is why our GM and Coach are here to stay!
