What it means for the Cavs and their Fans to be 9-0

After the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 131-122 on November 6th, history was made by this team. This is the first time in franchise history that a Cleveland Cavaliers team started the season at 9-0. This start surpasses the 2015 / 2016 Cavaliers start of 8-1 and that team won the first NBA Championship for this franchise. Immediately fans are starting to think that this team is good enough to win another NBA Championship. But it is early in this season.

An NBA season consists of 82 games and along with a post season with 4 bests of seven game series if the team advances. That is another potential 28 games on top of the 82 in the regular season. In other words, the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans have a long way to go until the NBA Playoffs start in April of 2025. Please don’t misunderstand me, this is a fantastic start to the season, and it should not go unnoticed. But we must keep perspective and understand that an NBA season and post season is a grind. And this fast-starting Cleveland Cavaliers team will be tested and face adversity.

On Friday the 9-0 Cleveland Cavaliers will be hosting the 7-1 Golden State Warriors. This Warriors team just defeated the defending World Champion Boston Celtics in Boston by a score of 118-112. This game will be a major test for this Cavaliers team.  The Golden State Warriors are the gold standard of the NBA. The NBA is a pass or fail league, your team either passes the test or they fail it. In other words, you either win or lose. Almost winning is losing and almost losing is winning. Come Friday night will this Cavaliers team pass or fail?
