What is Wrong with the Cleveland Browns?

As the Cleveland Browns prepare for their week 4 matchup at the Las Vegas Raiders, fans, podcasters, pundits, and beat reporters are lamenting the disappointing 1-2 start. In 2023 the Cleveland Browns were 8-1 at home at the then named Cleveland Browns Stadium. Now their home field is called Huntington Bank Field. And they started their 2024 season at home 0-2. To say both home games thus far were disappointing would be an understatement. Now that begs the question what is wrong with the 2024 Cleveland Browns?

The one thing that I have noticed as a Cleveland Browns beat reporter and podcaster is injuries to this team. 2023 could have easily been a disaster for the Cleveland Browns given the amount of payroll and players put on the injured reserve list. The injuries from last season have carried over into early part of this season. This is especially on the offensive line. And to be more specific offensive tackle. The injuries to the offensive tackle position got so bad last Sunday. Pro Bowl left guard Joel Bitonio was forced to play left tackle against the New York Giants. The injury list was released last Wednesday prior to the beginning of the week 4 preparation.  And it appears that every offensive tackle on the Cleveland Browns roster has some sort of injury issue. Some injuries seem more serious than others. So, what can be done by the Cleveland Browns to get better?

The simplest answer for the Browns to get better is to get healthier. But that is easier said than done. Because football is a brutal game, and we still have games to play. The offensive coaching staff needs to get creative in scheme and strategy to move the ball. Deshaun Watson has always had the propensity to hold on to the ball hoping for a big play to develop. This is why he gets sacked a lot and takes hits. But 16 sacks in 3 games is not sustainable. And neither will the season be sustainable if the Browns don’t figure out the solution.
