What if the Packers signed Tre’Davious White to a one-year deal?

The Green Bay Packers might need a new cornerback as they enter the free agency period. Free agent slot cornerback and All-Pro return man Keisean Nixon might not return to Green Bay. Also, other than Jaire Alexander, there isn’t another consistent cornerback on the roster. So, could the Packers add a new corner soon?

If they did, a player by the name of Tre’Davious White could be a good fit. White was just recently cut by the Buffalo Bills and is now looking for a new home. Bringing him to Green Bay on a one-year deal makes a ton of sense. Here is why:

Big-Time Experience

Despite some very significant knee injuries over the last couple of seasons, White brings plenty of star qualities and experience to the table. Still just 29, White is a two-time All-Pro and former All-American. Before the last three seasons that were very injury-riddled, White recorded 15 interceptions in his first four seasons. He has never allowed a completion percentage better than 56.9% in his career. Just a very stout player all the way around.

Again, he has been dealing with a lot of a lot of injuries over the last few seasons. But if healthy, he is a real dangerous defender to go up against on the boundary.

How He’d Fit in Green Bay

Jaire Alexander is the No. 1 cornerback in Green Bay. That is for certain. Other cornerbacks that are just hitting their stride after impressive seasons include Carrington Valentine and Corey Ballentine. Eric Stokes also has something to prove after another injury-riddled season. So, it’s not like the Packers are short on cornerback depth.

However, White has experience playing both inside and out. He is also eager to make a name for himself again. Why not offer him a one-year deal? There wouldn’t be a ton of risk for Green Bay, and White would have everything to gain. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who has a strong background coaching defensive backs, could help the former LSU Tiger become a great player again. This deal wouldn’t be the worst idea for Green Bay if they have some spare change.
