What I took from Andrew Berry’s Press Conference
On Wednesday Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry held a press conference during the bye week to discuss the state of the Browns. Berry did address the questions and concerns from the Cleveland sports media. With a 2-7 record, much of the concerns regarding the Cleveland Browns are shared by the fans and the media.
Interestingly enough, the subject of Deshaun Watson was brought up by reporters. The only thing that is clear about Watson is that his future as an NFL quarterback is in jeopardy. That Achilles Tendon injury was horrendous and will be difficult to recover from and play in the NFL. Andrew Berry was noncommittal on the future of Watson. He did state that “they want him to get healthy first”. He also wouldn’t say if the team would draft a quarterback in April of 2025. He considered that an off-season decision. But by reading into what he said- regarding the head coach tells me what to expect next offseason for the Browns.
Andrew Berry did say that “Kevin Stefanski is more of the solution than the problem with this team”. He cited Stefanski winning NFL coach of the year twice in his first four years as the Browns head coach. He also said that “he is an excellent coach”. It seems that both of their jobs are safe. The question would be now is how are they approaching the fix for the team?
Based on what Andrew Berry said or more of what he didn’t say, there will be turnover of the roster in the 2025 offseason. I don’t see changes in the front office or in the coaching staff currently. Things could change by the end of the season. As a fan I will pay attention to what they do more than what they say. Actions do speak louder than words. And so do results on the field. And that would be the final say on what happens.
