What I Got from Browns press conferences in Washington
Last Sunday afternoon in Landover Maryland the Cleveland Browns suffered a blowout loss to the Washington Commanders by the score of 34-13. The loss puts the Browns at a record of 1-4 and their 2024 season is slipping away fast. After the game brief press conferences were held and three key people in the Browns organization. Head coach Kevin Stefanski, quarterback Deshaun Watson, and defensive end Myles Garrett spoke to the media. And what they had to say was significant.
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was first to talk to the media. He did say the usual canned responses of not executing and how we as team need to be better. Which is all well and good, but the fans need to see it on the field. And that hasn’t happened yet. Most importantly he was asked about switching quarterbacks. He said that he was sticking with Deshaun Watson. His explanation is that it is not a one-person problem. He feels that the offense needs to play better. There was a controversial point in the 3rd quarter when it appeared that Watson walked off the field. The coach explained that there was 12 men in the huddle and the team took the penalty and kicked the field goal. Stefanski said that it was a communication problem that was on him. He took responsibility for the issue. He also took responsibility for his team’s performance. And so did his two players.
Both quarterback Deshaun Watson and defensive end Myles Garrett spoke to the media after the game. Both said similar things and the right things. Watson backed up what Kevin Stefanski said about the third quarter when he walked off the field. Myles Garrett also showed leadership by saying that we need to get better and play better. This all sounds well and good, but the fans need to see results on the field with no excuses and no lip service.
